- Strikes began 02:40. French SAMP/T battery destroyed, casualties confirmed.
- Two RAF Typhoons shot down. Both pilots ejected over Faxaflói and were recovered.
- Runway cratered both ends.
- Ground fighting at the airport since approx 05:45.

My father was born the year the Americans left in 2006. He said the base was the argument that never ended here — occupation or protection, forty years of it.
I do not think he expected the argument to be settled this way.
The thing I cannot get past: nine days ago we voted to let allies in to protect us. Cross-party. All night session. It felt enormous and grown-up.
