Retired loadmaster. I know what a hold looks like and I know what a hold means.
People asking me what the lockout means practically. It means every sortie now flies from Maine. Round trip over three thousand miles, in Arctic air, to put fuel in one fighter over Greenland.
You burn more getting there than he burns on station. That is not a supply line. That is a treadmill.
Two C-17s that should have left at 0900 are still sitting there. Cleared three times by our side. Zero times by the Germans. Reason on the hold sheet: "security inspection."
Nobody is shouting. That is what is frightening about it. It is completely quiet out there.
