Nordic security. Reporting from Reykjavík. Everything I post here I have seen or been told twice.
Five heavy transports on the apron at Keflavik in horizontal sleet. RAF and French. Royal Marines coming down the ramps in cold weather kit.
Iceland has no army. This morning Iceland has a garrison.
Keflavik is under attack. Confirmed: the French air defence battery has been destroyed. There are casualties. Runway is cratered at both ends.
I am fifteen kilometres away and I can see it.
The fuel farm at Keflavik is burning. Storm Shadow, from the east, under the Patriots.
Nine days ago the Americans took this airfield in a battle that killed nine people. Tonight they cannot land a heavy transport on it.
